Tutorial 6: Notes

 

This tutorial will take you through the basic use of the Notes application.

 

The tutorial has two parts:

§    Using Notes on the Pen

§    Managing Notes files in the PenExplorer

 

Using Notes

1.  Accessing the Input Screen

a.  Press the red ESC key to turn the Pen on.

b.  From the Pen Main Menu, enter the Notes application:

§ By pressing ENT when the icon is highlighted.

§ By tapping on the icon with the stylus. The Notes opening screen will appear:

2.  Scanning a line of text

Scan the following line:

Roll the scanning device over printed words

The following screen will appear:

3.  Inserting and deleting paragraphs

a. Select  from the Notes toolbar. You will see a drop-down menu with two options:

b. Select New Paragraph. The cursor will move down to the next line.

c. Scan the following line:

and see how the words appear on your Pen.

The following screen will appear:

c. Go back to  ||>  and select Delete Paragraph. A confirmation message will appear. Select OK. The new paragraph will disappear and the cursor will return to the end of the first line.

d. Scan the above sentence again.

The following screen will be visible:

4.  Deleting and Editing text

a. Select  to delete the last scan (which is underlined).

b. Select  to open the Virtual Keyboard. Insert the following characters using the stylus:

or tap them in.

c. Select  to close the Virtual Keyboard.

The edited text will appear on the screen:

5.  Cross-referencing words using the installed dictionaries

a. Tap the word 'device' with the stylus. The blinking cursor will appear at the point you tapped.

b. Select  from the Notes toolbar.

c. A pop-up similar to the following will appear. The dictionary entry will vary depending on which dictionaries are installed on your Pen.

c. Scroll through the dictionary entry using  and . d. Select  or press ESC to close the pop-up.

6.  Hear scanned text read aloud

Select  from the Notes toolbar. The entire sentence will be read aloud.

 

7.  Working with files

a. Select  from the Notes toolbar. You will see a drop-down menu with three options:


b. Select Rename Current File. The Virtual Keyboard will open and the file name 'file001' will appear highlighted in the editing area. This is the default file name.

c. Using the stylus, change the name of the file to

'scanning'. Select  to accept changes.

d. Select  to create another file. Scan in the following text:

 

This is another scanning example.

 

d. Go to  and select Rename Current File. Change the file name to 'example'. Select  .

e. Go back to  and select Open File. You will see that there are now two files on your Pen. Open the previous file, 'scanning'.

f.  Go to  and select Delete File. You will see both files again. Select the second file and press  when prompted.

 

Note: All scanned text is automatically saved in the current file under a default file name. If you have scanned text on your screen and you choose to create a new file, you can return to the previous text by selecting Open File in  and scrolling down to the last file saved.

 

8.  Return to the Pen Main Menu

Select  from the Notes toolbar to close Notes and return to the Pen Main Menu.

 

Managing Files Using the PenExplorer

The PenExplorer must be installed in order to transfer Notes files between the Pen and PC. If you have not yet installed the PenExplorer, see Installing the PenExplorer on page 5.

1.    Turn your computer on and connect your Pen to the PC

with the USB cable.

2.    From the Pen Main Menu, select Connect to PC:

  • By pressing ENT when the icon is highlighted.
  • · By tapping on the icon with the stylus.

3.     The Wizcom PenExplorer window will open and the icon  will be seen in the notification area of the windows taskbar.

4.     Double-click on the Notes folder to open it. You will see the files you saved in the Notes folder.

5.     Click on a file in the Notes window to highlight it.

Right-click to open the drop-down menu and select the function you wish to use.

Note: You can copy files to and from the Notes folder using standard Windows functions, such as drag-and- drop, copy-paste and using the PC shortcut keys. See File Management on page 63 for information on saving files for transfer to the Pen.

6.     Press the red ESC key on the Pen to exit the PenExplorer and return to the Pen Main Menu. The PenExplorer window will close on the PC.
