The Pen Keys

1. Power/Escape Key (red key)

Power:

ƒ Start up – Short press to turn the Pen on

ƒ Shut down - Long press to turn the Pen off

Note: To turn the Pen off, hold down the Power key until the progress bar reaches the end.

Escape (ESC):

ƒ Activate/deactivate toolbar

ƒ Close submenus and pop-ups

ƒ Stop reading/spelling aloud

ƒ Dictionary Screen: Disable highlight mode

2. 5-way button

Enter key (ENT):

ƒ Select highlighted option by pressing the key

ƒ Word Screen: Hear word read aloud

ƒ Dictionary Screens: Activate highlight mode

Direction keys:

Activate the direction keys (the joystick) by pushing the 5-way button in the desired direction

1.   Right key – Scroll right

ƒ  Dictionary Screen: Toggle dictionary views (complete/abridged forms); Switch between thesaurus and dictionary entries

ƒ  Word Screen: Spell word aloud

2.   Left key – Scroll left

ƒ  Dictionary Screen: Toggle dictionary views

(complete/abridged forms); Switch between dictionary and thesaurus entries

ƒ  Word Screen: Toggle syllable and regular view

3.   Up key – Scroll up

Word Screen: Access dictionary translation

(bilingual)

4.   Down key – Scroll down

Word Screen: Access dictionary definition (monolingual)

Icons and Indicators

The following table contains a list of icons and graphic indicators.

Icons can be selected by tapping on them with the stylus, or can be accessed with the 5-way button. Indicators cannot be selected. They represent the current state of the Pen.

The stylus can be found in the stylus slot on the top panel of the Pen. See The Pen Parts on p4.
